Oregon State Capitol Dome Restoration

Oregon almost lost its legislative home. Fortunately damage from the earthquake was repairable, and we began an extremely demanding seismic retrofit of the main Rotunda. Steel-reinforced shear walls were installed from the ground floor to the base of the 105' dome. In the upper dome, we added 2,000 stainless steel bolts to secure the marble panels, 6" of Gunite onto the face of the brick walls, and two layers of steel reinforcement. We also took great care to preserve the building's historic features, including original 1938 marble veneer panels, ceiling tiles, and architectural woodwork.
